Coffee for a Clear Complexion
I love coffee and it is part of my morning routine. Nothing fancy just a simple cup right when I get up. If I am super organized I even set up my coffee maker the night before and there is nothing like the feeling that you just have to "push the button" first thing. I know you can set timers, etc... but I am just happy to have it set up with water and ground coffee. But, besides being my morning drink did you know that coffee is also good for your skin? It is often used in skin scrubs ground where the caffeine and bits of coffee beans help clean your skin and boost circulation. Coffee is also a antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties and makes a really nice facial mask. Here are a few of my favorites:
Cleansing Coffee Mask
Plain yogurt and sour cream is a natural source of lactic and alpha hydroxy acid which is a natural exfoliator. Helping to clear your complexion of dead skin cells and surface impurities. Combined with ground coffee this mask can be used by all skin types and will get your skin super clean.
2 Tablespoons finely ground coffee
2 Tablespoons plain yogurt or sour cream
1 /2 teaspoon honey
Mix together all ingredients and stir well. Spread on clean skin in the morning and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat your skin dry. Follow up with your favorite daily moisturizer.
Yield: 1 ounce, 1 treatment
Soothing Coffee Mask
This coffee mask is ideal for sensitive skin types. Oatmeal helps calm and clean the skin and is often times used in place of soap. Honey and coffee help clean and clear the skin and can also help in treating breakouts. If you have super sensitive skin you may want to do a patch test first.
1 Tablespoon finely ground coffee
2 Tablespoon ground whole oats or oat flour
1 Tablespoon raw honey
Mix together all ingredients and stir well. Spread on clean skin and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat your skin dry. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer or natural skin oil.
Yield: 1 ounces, 1 Treatment
Toning Coffee Mask
This is a simple mask that will help tone and condition your skin. It is also helpful in preventing breakouts and improving the appearance of your complexion.
1 Tablespoon finely ground coffee
1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Mix together the coffee and oil and stir well. Massage into clean skin in a circular motion and let sit on your face for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and pat your skin dry. Apply your favorite moisturizer or more natural olive oil.
Yield: .75 ounce, 1 treatment
